United's Muller bid
Manchester United were hotly linked with a move for Thomas Muller during the summer, and German publication Kicker have now looked to confirm that a bid was made by the Red Devils.
Kicker - as relayed by ESPN - say a world-record approach of £88million was put forward from Old Trafford, with Muller in line to earn a fairly ridiculous €12.5m had Bayern Munich accepted.
Of course the Bavarians held fast in their refusal of the proposal, with United then turning their attentions to Anthony Martial before the closing of the summer transfer window.
Muller might be an option for the future, but Louis van Gaal is going to have to smash records if he wants him.
Ferdinand on United
The former Old Trafford defender backed Van Gaal’s men to be in the top four, but praised the strength of rivals Manchester City, who have won every game so far this term.
Herrera penalty confidence
Elsewhere, Ander Herrera took the time to praise Van Gaal after smashing home his penalty against Liverpool this weekend.
The Spaniard said the Dutchman had given him the confidence to dispatch the spot-kick - which was United’s second goal of the game - although did admit that if the club’s number one penalty taker, Wayne Rooney, were on the pitch, he wouldn’t leapfrog him.
