Barcelona will wear new third strip for Champions League showdown against Roma

Barcelona have confirmed they will wear their new 'electric blue' third kit for their Champions League showdown against Roma tomorrow.

The Catalan giants will debut the strip, which will be available for fans to buy from October 1, at the Stadio Olimpico tomorrow because of a clash between the two teams' home strips.

Barcelona wore a similar colour strip in 2008, and the latest incarnation of the shirt features an 'ombre sleeve' and is an 'evolution' of the club's famous Blau.

The shirt, which has been designed by Nike, is environmentally friendly and each one is made from 18 recycled plastic bottles.

The bright blue kit won't be the only thing distracting Roma when they take on Barcelona; the defending European champions have started the new campaign well and have conceded just one goal in three league games.

Lionel Messi was named as a substitute for their latest league game against Atletico Madrid following the birth of his second child.

However, he emerged from the bench to bag the winner with 13 minutes remaining at the Vicente Calderon - and Roma manager Rudi Garcia is well aware of the sizeable challenge his team are facing when they take on the Argentinian international.

He said: "We will have to play as a team, in defence and attack. We will give it everything and work for each other, and use the ball properly when we attack. Lionel Messi? He is one of the best players in the world – probably the best."

What is your prediction for Roma's showdown against Barcelona?
