Why WWE got the Divas Championship match ending wrong

Nikki Bella officially became the longest reigning Divas Champion in WWE history today after she overcame the challenge of Charlotte last night on Raw via disqualification, the problem is - WWE got it wrong.

There was a definite feeling of deja vu about the whole ending and that is because WWE staged the exact same ending at Money in the Bank earlier this year when Brie and Nikki switched places and Brie was pinned by Paige.

The referee then reversed the decision and the match continued with Nikki hitting her forearm followed by the "Rack attack" to secure the victory.

WHY WAS LAST NIGHT ANY DIFFERENT?

Nikki was speared before Brie rolled into the ring and looked to be going for something before Charlotte rolled her up for the three count. Brie never physically touched Charlotte which means there was no call for the disqualification so the match should have been either restarted or allowed to continue.

This makes no sense whatsoever, WWE make these rules and they don't stand by them and to make matters worse, they showed Money in the Bank's match on Total Divas this week so it would have still been fresh in the WWE Universe's minds.

RECORD SETTING CHAMPION?

Whilst this doesn't take anything away from Nikki Bella, who has spent the last 296 days cheating her way to victory and retaining her championship thanks to help from Team Bella. It does take something away from WWE.

#DivasForMainEvent was trending on Twitter last night heading into the Season Premiere of Raw with many in the WWE Universe thinking this was one of the biggest divas matches in almost a decade.

This then turned into the same old match with Nikki and Brie using "Twin Magic" once again to ensure the Divas Championship stayed in Team Bella.

It doesn't even matter that Charlotte has a rematch in five days because Nikki has already broken AJ Lee's record. That was something that the Universe thought was more important than the title and now even if Charlotte wins, Nikki has wiped AJ Lee from history.

Did WWE make the right decision? Does Nikki Bella deserve the record after what happened last night? Was it really a disqualification? Have your say in the comments section below...
