Benteke to be rested
Liverpool need all the help they can get with regards to boosting morale at the moment following their drubbing at the hands of Manchester United.
However, they won’t have Christian Benteke’s assistance when they travel to France to play Bordeaux in their opening Europe League fixture this week.
That’s according to the Daily Mirror, who claim that Brendan Rodgers is prioritising this weekend’s game against Norwich City, as he bids to end the Reds’ domestic slump.
Instead, youngster Divock Origi is to be blooded by the Northern Irishman, while the returning Adam Lallana is set to be given a shot, as is Philippe Coutinho.
Gerrard v Diouf
Meanwhile, Steven Gerrard’s lawyers have categorically denied claims from El Hadji Diouf that the former Anfield skipper is a racist.
Diouf made the accusation recently, stating that Gerrard had never looked him in the eye. Gerrard is reportedly now considering legal action.
In other news, Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is going to undergo surgery to try and correct a troublesome heel injury.
The midfielder flew to the States last week though it was initially unclear as to how he would be treated there. The uncertainty was ended yesterday when the son of Dr John Cozzarelli tweeted that Henderson was to be operated on.
