Who do Chelsea need to buy in January to avoid their early season demise? Five games into the champions' title defence they have suffered three defeats and one draw from their opening five matches, conceding 12 goals in five games and only scoring seven goals.
An obvious solution to Chelsea's demise is to buy a more reliable central defender as with age Chelsea can not rely on John Terry as they have done in the past.
Chelsea had two last-minute bids rejected for Paris Saint-Germain defender Marquinhos and personally I believe that they should continue to pursue both John Stones and Marquinhos to tighten up their defence and create a building block for the future.

A reason for Jose Mourinho's Chelsea's form collapse is the midfield, who have been almost unrecognisable from last year. Nemanja Matic, Cesc Fabregas and Eden Hazard all performing badly at moment, yet the Chelsea boss has stayed loyal with the trio who were so influential eight months ago.
A new burst of pace and youth is needed to give the starting XI competition an obvious replacement is Paul Pogba however, Pogba seems to be heading to Barcelona as the France international has reportedly expressed his ambitions to play for the Catalan giants.
A young replacement would be Hakan Calhanoglu the 20-year-old Turkey international who plays for Bayer Leverkusen. An attacking midfielder by trade, Hakan’s skill and elegance on the ball has seen him sought out by some of the world’s best clubs.
Mourinho is probably only going through a bad spell and he will recover but no one was expecting their current poor form which has shown up the lack of depth in the squad.
Last season pundits believed Chelsea plenty of options to call on, but it was never truly put to the test like it is now. Will Mourinho come out of this bad spell? only time will tell.
