Jose Mourinho had forgotten "winning feeling"

Published Add your comment

Jose Mourinho was very happy with Chelsea's win in their first Champions League fixture of the season against Maccabi Tel Aviv.

Chelsea were back to winning ways on Wednesday night as they won against the Israeli side in a game that saw goals from Willian, Oscar, Diego Costa, who scored his first ever goal in the Champions League for Chelsea, and Cesc Fabregas.

Eden Hazard also missed a penalty in the 6th minute, but that did not stop Mourinho's men from completing a comfortable 4-0 win to begin their European campaign in emphatic fashion.

Mourinho's reaction

The Portuguese manager said that he was happy with the win and had almost forgotten the 'winning feeling', after only one win in their first five games of the new Premier League season.

Chelsea needed a morale boost after their worst Premier League start, and they certainly got that after their Champions League victory.

Mourinho claimed that the game was hard, even though he said that: "you could see from minute one we were going to win the game."

Mourinho told BT Sport that Hazard's penalty miss early on was a big test for his team and that the players did very well to get such a big victory in the end.

This victory, despite pleasing the Chelsea manager, did not "put him in heaven.

"The same way I was not in hell with bad results, I am not in heaven we won a game."

Mourinho also admitted that he had a lot of thinking to do before the Arsenal game on Saturday as he says that he tries to read the game before it starts.

A turnaround?

The fact is that Chelsea are in bad form. With only one win from their first five league games, the Blues need, or maybe needed, something to turn it around and give their fans some hope.

A lot of Chelsea fans were angry about their club's form, but a lot of them were very hopeful too, Mourinho said he 'welcomes the adulation from the supporters'.

"We won four Premier Leagues, three with him and one with his team. This guy is not bad. Let's support the guy. We have a chance to win the fifth," he said of the fans' decision to support him.

Mourinho knows he has the fans' support as they chanted his name at the beginning of the Champions League game. With that, it's hard to make up whether or not we'll see last season's Chelsea again and if this win could kick-start their season.

Big game on Saturday

Arsenal lost their Champions League game to Dinamo Zagreb 2-1 on Wednesday night, which could be to Chelsea's advantage on Saturday in their Premier League encounter.

After the emphatic 4-0 win, the question is: is this the turnaround in Chelsea's season? Will they be able to compete with Manchester City? We won't know for sure until the Arsenal game and see how the Gunners react to their loss while Chelsea try and get back in-form and attempt to climb the Premier League table.
