Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that he called defender Luke Shaw last night, and has been left amazed by the player's response following his horrific injury against PSV on Tuesday night.
Shaw left the field of play after just 15 minutes at the Philips Stadion after sustaining a double fracture of his right leg and now faces a lengthy period on the sidelines.
However, despite remaining in the Netherlands following surgery, it appears that the talented youngster is in good spirits in his pursuit of a full recovery.

Van Gaal, who has been speaking to reporters ahead of the Red Devils' Premier League clash with Shaw's former club Southampton this weekend, has also admitted that it will be very difficult to replace the full-back.
The Red Devils chief has highlighted the trio of Daley Blind, Marcos Rojo and Ashley Young as candidates to replace the defender, so it will be interesting to see which player starts at left-back on Sunday.
"I called Luke Shaw last night," Louis van Gaal told reporters. "He sounds very strong, which is amazing for me - a good signal.
"It is very difficult to replace him, but in Blind, Rojo and Young we have good replacements."
Blind the man
The smart decision would be to hand Argentine international Rojo a place at centre-back, while moving Blind out to the left-hand side.
Despite an impressive start to the season at the heart of the club's defence, the versatile ace should now be handed a permanent role on the left in Shaw's absence. Down the flank, Blind has qualities in both defence and attack, so he could have a key role to play for the club over the coming months.
