Carragher responded to a tweet from an eagle-eyed fan who posted a screenshot of Louis van Gaal talking on Sky Sports News but with Carragher’s name as the caption instead of the current Manchester United manager’s.
Carragher embedded the tweet, alongside the caption: “I'd love that job I could guarantee relegation within 2 years!!”

Needless to say, the tweet went down well with the majority of Liverpool supporters, although many United fans unsurprisingly failed to see the funny side.
Carragher seems to enjoy winding up Manchester United supporters on Twitter, while his co-pundit on Monday Night Football, Gary Neville, often can’t resist a cheeky tweet at the expense of Liverpool fans.
Neville and Carragher have changed opinions
But since joining Sky Sports, Neville and Carragher have earned the respect of fans who once despised them.
Neville was hated at Anfield, but you’ll often find a stream of positive comments from impressed Liverpool fans during and after every Monday Night Football episode on Sky Sports.
Similarly, Carragher has earned the respect of some United fans thanks to his ability to intelligently dissect football on television.
Neville and Carragher make no secret of their club allegiances, even when working on TV, but they work brilliantly as a duo and are often more entertaining than the actual football on offer on Monday nights.
But it’s safe to assume that Carragher will never, ever manage Manchester United - just as Neville wouldn’t manage Liverpool.
