Schuster hails real work rate

Real Madrid coach Bernd Schuster admits his side were made to dig deep by Werder Bremen before taking the points in their opening Champions League match on Tuesday night.

Real won the game 2-1 at the Bernabeu, but rarely looked comfortable against a Bremen side who belied their poor domestic form to give their red-hot hosts a tough night.

"We had to work hard for the win," said Schuster. "We knew it was not going to be easy, our opponents were difficult."
