Celtic manager Ronny Deila has confirmed that former West Ham and England striker Carlton Cole will train with his side next week with a view to signing for the Scottish champions.
Cole, 31, has been without a club after his nine-year stint with Premier League side West Ham ended over the summer.
Deila spent the summer in search of a striker after John Guidetti's season-long loan came to an end, but was unsuccessful in his deadline-day approach for Sunderland's Steven Fletcher. However, Dick Advocaat was reluctant to let the Scottish international leave the club.

Instead, it appears that the Parkhead side are ready to swoop for Chelsea academy product Cole, who earned seven England caps (I can't believe it either, but it happened), providing he adapts to the move north of the border.
As reported by the BBC, Deila asserted that it would not be a trial as such, adding, "He has been in London his whole life, so he has to see what he is coming to and then we will see if it is something that he likes and we like as well."
The Norwegian also highlighted Cole's abilities and what he would bring to the team, praising his track record. He said of the striker: "I think he is a very good football player and he shown in the Premier League and also the Championship that he can score goals and he is different to what we have."
"He is a target man, very good in the air and strong and that is something that, if everything fits, could be good for us."
The news followed Celtic's emphatic 6-0 drubbing of Dundee, although the result still leaves them trailing league leaders Aberdeen by five points.
Breaking into the starting XI at Celtic Park would be no easy task for Cole, who would have to dislodge Leigh Griffiths. Griffiths has enjoyed a strong start to the season, currently leading the Scottish Premier League's goalscoring charts with seven league goals.
However, Cole remains confident he has still has something to offer to the game, stating upon his departure from Upton Park that he intends to continue playing for three more years.
