Liverpool midfielder Lucas has revealed that the club's Premier League showdown with rivals Arsenal last month kept him at the club.
As reported by Goal.com, the Brazilian ace, who failed to secure a place in the squad for the side's opening two fixtures of the campaign, looked set to complete a move away from Merseyside in the summer transfer window.
However, with captain Jordan Henderson unavailable for the clash in north London, Lucas was handed his first start of the season in the stalemate.

As a result, the 28-year-old has now suggested that he's 'very happy' to have stayed at Anfield, claiming that he will continue to fight for the club throughout the course of the season.
"Maybe if there hadn't been the Arsenal game, I wouldn't be here now," he told reporters.
"But I always believe that things happen for a reason. I'm very happy that I stayed and I will keep fighting for the club as I have been doing for the past eight years."
"I was very frustrated that I couldn't make the squad for the first two games, but I had to keep training and working hard because we have a lot of examples where football can change in a moment.
"Of course, I never wanted to leave Liverpool. I have a home here and my family are very happy, but sometimes you do find yourself thinking about another solution if you think that will keep your career going."
Role to play
Ultimately, Lucas isn't going to turn Liverpool into serious Premier League title contenders this season, but he will certainly have a role to play in their pursuit of success.
With a great deal of experience, the holding midfielder's presence in the side shouldn't be underestimated. With Lucas on the pitch, the likes of Adam Lallana, Philippe Coutinho, Roberto Firmino and co. should have the license to express themselves.
Liverpool fans may well see the Brazil midfielder in action tonight as they prepare for the visit of Carlisle United in the Capital One Cup.
