Mathieu Bodmer turned from villain to hero to earn Lyon three points at Sochaux with a 2-1 victory in Ligue 1 on Wednesday.

The summer signing from Lille gave away the penalty, converted by Valter Birsa in the 22nd minute, that had brought the hosts level after Karim Benzema had opened the scoring moments earlier. But defender Bodmer lashed home the winner in the 56th minute as Les Gones claimed their second victory in four days.

Lyon went in front in the 20th minute after a free-flowing move involving Jeremy Toulalan and Sidney Govou resulted in Anthony Reveillere storming forward.
