David Beckham says Anthony Martial is already living up to his huge price tag at Manchester United.

The Red Devils icon has been impressed with the 19-year-old, who made global headlines after moving to Old Trafford for an initial fee of £36million. Depending on his success, AS Monaco could eventually receive as much as £58m.

Despite scoring four goals in his opening four games, a number of fans and pundits alike have questioned their decision to pay so much for a teenager. Indeed, Martial will have to reach his full potential if he is to ever be deemed good value.

Living up to the price tag

"He is 19 years old and the price-tag that he came into Manchester United with, he is living up to it at the moment.

"I hope he continues his form as I'm a Manchester United fan so I want to see him score more goals and become more successful.

"These are the type of players United are all about as one of the biggest clubs in the world."

Title challenge

Having failed to win a major trophy in the last two seasons, Louis van Gaal's men look capable of challenging for the Premier League title. They currently sit second in the table, two points behind Man City and a full six in front of reigning champions, Chelsea.

Beckham, who won six titles under the stewardship of Sir Alex Ferguson, believes they are in a good position to win their first major title in the post-Ferguson period.

"I hope they do," he added. "They are in a good position at the moment, but we will see.

"The Premier League is a tough league and a long one, so there is still a long way to go."
