Reports that emerged over the course of the summer suggesting that Neymar had been an official transfer target of Manchester United’s were mostly laughed off at the time, but new information has come to light that might just make the idea more feasible.
The player himself has confirmed he did hold talks in the summer transfer window, but that there was nothing concrete in any potential move.
The Brazilian superstar also said that no offers were formally put to him, but it raises a question as to how close Louis van Gaal came to stunning world football.
"We had conversations, but there was nothing concrete," Neymar said, as relayed by Sky Sports.
"I heard that there were offers but none were made to me."
Elsewhere we’ve got more quotes from South Americans about possibly moving to United, with Alexandre Pato having claimed that he received an offer to transfer to Old Trafford late on transfer deadline day.
The striker is currently with Corinthians but had the option to make a Premier League switch - god only knows why it failed to materialise.
Valdes on the move?
Last but not least, Jose Mourinho is said to be considering the prospect of securing Victor Valdes’ services at the next available opportunity.
Reports today insinuate that the Special One is interested in Valdes as Thibaut Courtois’ injury has left Chelsea thin on the ground between the sticks. United, however, aren’t believed to be keen on said deal.
