Liverpool fans, good morning!
There are few things in life more difficult to tackle than a Monday at the beginning of a long working week, but you can take comfort in the fact that there’s plenty of interesting football news doing the rounds.
It’s our job to siphon through that news and put it all in one easy-on-the-eye round-up. Read on below for all the latest.
Valdes to Liverpool?
Without a doubt, one of the biggest stories of the weekend, and one that has naturally spilled over into Monday, is the rumour that Liverpool are considering a move for Manchester United goalkeeper Victor Valdes.
The Spaniard is out of favour at Old Trafford, and ESPN claim to have been told by ‘sources’ that Liverpool are looking into the possibility of taking advantage of the situation.
Having ‘sources’ as your evidence is about as vague as it could possibly be, so we’re reluctant to back the idea, though with Valdes’ experience and his current malaise, it looks as though anything could happen.
Liverpool players united
In other news, Brendan Rodgers may be under the cosh from the stands, but the players remain united behind him.
That’s the opinion of Lucas Leiva, who has said he and his teammates are trying to make everything right following their slow start to the season.
The Reds beat Aston Villa 3-2 at the weekend to give Rodgers some slight reprieve, but it appears the axe is still hanging over his head moving forward.
Lastly, Liverpool fans hoping to see Lazar Markovic return to Merseyside a changed man after his loan spell in Turkey with Fenerbahce have been given cause for optimism.
The Serbian midfielder, who cost the Reds £20m last year, embarked on a dazzling run against Besiktas on Sunday, producing the sort of showcase Rodgers had hoped to get out of him at Liverpool.
It’s very much now a case of more of the same please, Lazar.
