There has been a lot of talk recently about which company the lucha legend, Rey Mysterio, will sign a contract with, but recent news seems to indicate that he will be going home to California with Lucha Underground.

The upstart promotion, who are going to begin taping their second season in December, are expecting to sign Rey Mysterio so they can use him as one of the top stars of the company.

This, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, will, in turn, help Lucha Underground expand due to how marketable and recognizable Mysterio is.

It is well noted that for this season to go ahead, Lucha Underground had to cut back on its budget. For last season, one episode cost $400,000 to make and when you remember that there were 39 episodes last year, that is a lot of money to spend on production alone.

So, with the added star power and merchandise sales of Rey Mysterio, Lucha Underground could get the television deal they need in Mexico with Televisa Channel 5 which would grant them more money to spend and more exposure in Mexico than other major Mexican wrestling promotions CMLL, AAA and even WWE.

It is believed that he will debut early in the next season in what will be a huge surprise for the Lucha Underground fans.

At this time, nothing has been confirmed by either parties, although it is likely both sides are keeping quiet so his debut for the company can be a major announcement to be officially revealed at a later time.
