Amir Khan thinks Pacquiao fight would tempt Floyd Mayweather out of retirement

Floyd Mayweather, so we are led to believe, fought his last fight as a professional boxer on the 12th of September against Andre Berto and has now walked off into retirement never to return.

But, no matter how many times the undefeated champion insists he is done with the sport, there is always going to be talk about a potential return. It happens with every big name that walks away from the ring and is even more likely considering Mayweather is just one win away from usurping Rocky Marciano's 49-0 record.

Plan

Amir Khan missed out on being the opponent for Mayweather's 49th fight, but, speaking to Sky Sports this week, the British boxer has a cunning plan to get his rival back in the ring for number 50.

"I want to fight Manny Pacquaio next," said Khan. "Because if I beat him, maybe that will make Floyd Mayweather come out of retirement to fight me."

Khan (31-3) has long been touted as the man who could seriously threaten Mayweather's unbeaten status if given the chance. Unfortunately, it may be the Bolton native's talent that is costing him his shot at the biggest fight of his career. And Khan knows it.

"I think Floyd Mayweather will have one more fight. He's on 49-0 and he knows that. He's got one more fight left in him.

"At the moment he's matching Rocky Marciano's record but he can beat him and get to 50. I'm there ready and waiting for him.

"I think he thinks I'm too dangerous for him. I don't think he'll ever want to fight me. I bring too much to the table and would cause him a lot of problems."

Intriguing

Having not fought since May, Khan is keen to get back into the ring, and a fight with Manny Pacquiao would certainly pique the interest of Floyd Mayweather, even if only as an interested observer.

Pacquiao, of course, was the opponent for Floyd Mayweather's 48th fight, but the Filipino was comfortably seen off by the American earlier this year.

He is currently rehabbing a shoulder injury picked up in the bout.
