WWE: Which main roster stars would benefit from a run on NXT?

Published 2 Comments

With the continual growth and success of NXT, the fans continue to call for their finest superstars and divas to make the jump to the main roster.

We’ve seen plenty of NXT stars make the successful jump to the main roster.

Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Roman Reigns, Bray Wyatt and Kevin Owens – just to name a few. At the same time, we have seen a handful of stars that have made the jump but haven’t really hit the same heights. Adam Rose, The Ascension and Bo Dallas haven’t really lived up to expectations.

The more NXT continues to grow, more stars will move on to the main roster. When this happens the ‘fringe’ superstars on the main roster continue to fall into irrelevancy. At times we even forget they work for the company.

It’s definitely a shame. There are plenty of talented main roster superstars that aren’t getting the opportunities to shine. One way to help them is to send them down to NXT and potentially repackage them. It worked brilliantly for Tyson Kidd and Titus O’Neil and hopefully it can work for Zack Ryder also.

Here are the three stars I believe would benefit from going to NXT.

Jack Swagger is one of the better wrestlers on the main roster.

That doesn’t mean he’s the complete superstar. He’s enjoyed sporadic success in the WWE such as holding the World Heavyweight Championship; as well as being one of the hottest tag teams in The Real Americans alongside Cesaro and Zeb Colter.

Since then it’s been pretty much a downward spiral for Swagger, which is a shame as he can offer a lot.

The WWE should look to send Swagger to NXT as he would really benefit from it. He would be able to grow another fan base as well showcase his skills alongside some of the finest talents.

He’d be given time in matches to show what he can do, and with amazing opponents fans would be surprised to see what he can actually do before returning to the main roster.

It would be great to see him on NXT as another NXT Championship contender, and competing at a TakeOver would also be huge for him and NXT as a whole.

The same applies to Curtis Axel, he’s also one of the better wrestlers around.

It’s definitely obvious that he too has something missing which is stopping him from moving up to the next level. His biggest success came in the form of capturing the Intercontinental Championship under the tutelage of Paul Heyman.

Since moving on from ‘RybAxel,’ he too has done very little. The most notable thing for Axel was his ‘Axelmania’ gimmick which was dropped after the Hulk Hogan scandal.

Axel could also add something to NXT and it could be something similar to what Tyson Kidd did. He’d be a great challenger to any NXT Champion, acting as the man you have to beat to move on to the next level.

He could bring out things in NXT stars who are struggling to reach the championship status. It would also help his character and finally give him some direction in the WWE.

Fandango actually started on NXT, but it’s time he went back for a while.

His Fandango gimmick has definitely run its course and there’s pretty much no direction for the character. His biggest success is defeating Chris Jericho at WrestleMania, and there are no other accolades we can highlight.

It’s a shame as he’s definitely a bright talent who can offer so much with the right character. On NXT, he competed as Johnny Curtis and showed a lot of promise. He actually won season four of NXT before it was rebranded, and a return to Johnny Curtis could work in his favour.

He has the charisma, he has the look and he can definitely talk and compete in the ring. Continuing as Fandango will do absolutely nothing for him especially since he rarely appears on Monday Night Raw.

Moving to NXT, however, would be fantastic. He would have time to compete inside of the ring against some of the finest stars. The fans would be loyal and he can receive some direction as a real character that connects with the audience.
