The UFC has had an ongoing battle with the state of New York in their attempts to host a show in one of the biggest cities in the world.
New York has proved to be a stumbling block for the UFC for the last eight years. This has prompted the UFC to take out a court injunction on the ban of MMA in the state.
Earlier this year the announcement that assembly speaker Sheldon Silver had been arrested on fraud charges excited the MMA community. Many believed it was he who was one of the driving forces preventing the UFC from being legalised in the state.

However, even after the bill to legalise MMA was passed with a massive landslide in the senate, the bill failed to make the floor of the New York State Assembly for the eighth straight year.
The UFC has booked dates with Madison Square Garden before but never have they gone to such lengths to succeed in this battle.
But now, the UFC has set an April 23rd date for their show. With UFC stars such as Middleweight Champion Chris Weidman and former Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones being natives of the 'Empire State', the UFC will have at least two top level fighters lobbying to be on that card.
With Jones on probation rather than behind bars, perhaps an April return in New York is the perfect way to revive his career.
We wait with baited breath to see if this one materialises. Fingers crossed.
