Petr Cech declared himself fit to play in Champions League defeat to Olympiacos

Published Add your comment

Despite what Arsene Wenger would have you believe, Petr Cech was fit and ready to play during Arsenal’s Champions League clash with Olympiacos last night. That’s the claim made by the Daily Mail, who say that the veteran goalkeeper - usually Arsenal’s first-choice - was dropped in favour of David Ospina despite declaring himself OK for action. Cech was on the bench as the Gunners were beaten 3-2 by their Greek opposition, and questions will be asked as to why he wasn’t given the nod if he was available. Meanwhile, Wenger has backed Ospina after his poor showing at the Emirates Stadium, stating that blaming him would be a farce. The ‘keeper was at fault for Olympiacos’ second-goal as he carried Kostas Fortounis’ corner over his own line, but Wenger said that it could have happened to Cech just as easily.
