Michael Owen has insisted that Manchester United youngster Anthony Martial is yet to take his 'breath away'.
As reported by the Manchester Evening News, Owen, who was speaking on BT Sport ahead of the Red Devils' Champions League fixture with Wolfsburg last night, believes the France international has 'done what he had to do'.
Martial has impressed United fans following his move to Old Trafford from AS Monaco last month. With three Premier League games to his name already, there is a feeling that the dynamic forward is set for a huge future in the game.
Martial's fee could rise to an incredible £58 million, but there's no reason why he won't be able to pay the club back over the coming years.
Owen, though, appears to be less than convinced as he stated: "He has done what he had to do, that was the question mark before he came because he didn't have a goalscoring record.
"I am not watching him and he is doing things I haven't seen before, he's not taking my breath away but you can't pick any holes in his game right now, he has scored four in four."
Set for stardom
In truth, Owen has been slightly harsh on Martial. A goal against Liverpool and a match-winning display at Southampton has rightly got the Manchester United faithful excited about their latest hero.
He still has a great deal to prove, of course, but these are very early days in his Old Trafford career. He appears to have all the attributes to become a leading player in Manchester.
He's a constant menace to the opposition: with creativity, skill and an eye for goal, the former Monaco man is only going to go from strength-to-strength under the guidance of Louis van Gaal. United fans will certainly be excited to see him in action in north London against rivals Arsenal on Sunday.
