Benteke's Mourinho desire
It was Liverpool who signed Christian Benteke this summer, but perhaps Chelsea who the Belgian striker secretly desired to play for.
OK, we’ll admit, that might be pushing it a little, but the striker did say that he was keen to work with Jose Mourinho, who is, of course, currently manager of Chelsea.
Benteke shot to Premier League fame with Aston Villa but hasn’t yet hit the dizzy heights at Anfield under Brendan Rodgers.
"Not only because of their achievements: they have won everything," he said, of Mourinho and Bayern Munich boss Pep Guardiola when asked what managers he wanted to work with.
"Their approach is completely different and it is also why I would like to work with both."
Maybe it is a manager with Mourinho’s panache that is needed to get the best out of him. In any case, a departure from Liverpool looks some way off.
Gomez on the Europa League
Meanwhile, Joe Gomez has claimed that the Europa League is a competition he is looking forward to playing in, refuting the idea that it won’t be beneficial.
Speaking on the chances he’s been afforded by Rodgers thus far, Gomez said the clash against Sion tonight would give him another shot at impressing.
Origi not to be loaned
Last but not least, Divock Origi isn’t going to be sent out on loan again by Liverpool, Brendan Rodgers himself has confirmed.
The youngster has been limited to just three appearances in all competitions this campaign - during which he’s failed to net even once - but he won’t be farmed out to continue his development elsewhere.
