Arsenal's first-team stars were left surprised by Arsene Wenger's decision to drop Petr Cech in favour of David Ospina in their shock Champions League defeat to Olympiakos.
A report in the Telegraph claims that Cech declared himself fit for the Emirates clash and told Wenger he wanted to play. The Frenchman eventually opted for the Colombian, who went on to score a comical own goal to give Olympiakos a 2-1 lead. They would go on to win 3-2.
The Arsenal boss maintained that Cech was injured for the game even though he was named on the bench, but it now appears Wenger was keeping a promise made to Ospina before the start of the season.

A number of reports, and Piers Morgan, have claimed that Wenger promised to play Ospina in Champions League and cup games ahead of Cech. It was a commitment that has left a number of senior Gunners stars wondering.
Having lost their opening game against Dinamo Zagreb, Arsenal had to take all three points against the Greek champions to get the campaign back on track. A loss leaves them rock-bottom of Group F and facing a stern test to qualify for the second round.
With so much at stake, Arsenal insiders say players were shocked at Wenger's decision to play Ospina, who has never convinced between the sticks since arriving from Nice in 2014.
A fatal decision
Cech, Wenger's only major signing of the summer, was labelled as a key cog as Arsenal went in search for major trophies, but having been left out of the starting XI for the game in Croatia as well, he has yet to play in Europe for his new club.
Only a real injury can surely keep Cech out of their next two Champions League games, both of which are against Bayern Munich. Arsenal will need a result in both ties to stand any chance of escaping what had originally been seen as a simple group.
