Brendan Rodgers sacked over the phone

Brendan Rodgers was at Liverpool's Melwood training base yesterday when he was sacked as the club's manager.

This has been reported by the Independent, who claim that the Northern Irishman was told over the phone that he had no future on Merseyside.

Just hours before his dismissal, Rodgers had guided his side to a 1-1 draw with rivals Everton in the Merseyside derby; however, the result wasn't enough for him to keep his job.

Klopp for Kop

It's certainly not surprising that Jurgen Klopp is the red-hot favourite to replace Rodgers. The German coach, who is currently out of work following his departure from Borussia Dortmund at the end of last season, would surely prove the ideal fit for the club in their pursuit of long-term success.

There's no doubt about it, the arrival of Klopp would only bring the feel good factor back to Anfield. He's an exciting manager with an impressive track record, so the club's hierarchy must convince him to move to England in the coming days.

One thing is for sure, Reds fans will be hoping to see their new manager in place before the club travel to White Hart Lane to take on Tottenham on October 17.
