Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho has revealed that he's in regular contact with Steven Gerrard and has admitted that he felt like a 'caged lion' earlier on in the season.
The France international struggled to hold down a regular place in the first team in the opening weeks of the campaign but has forced his way into the recently.
However, with Liverpool now on the lookout for a new manager following the dismissal of Brendan Rodgers, Sakho may well have to prove himself all over again.

The towering defender certainly appears to be determined to prove his credentials on Merseyside, and has revealed that former skipper Gerrard sent him a text message after his first match of the season against Bordeaux in September.
As reported by the Mirror, Sakho stated: "Let's say that during the short period when I was not playing, I was like a little caged lion who had not been fed for a while. And when you open the door, he charges.
"Steven is an example. Also, he often sends me small text messages like after my first match of the season at Bordeaux, in the Europa League, with the captain armband.
"He texted me to congratulate me, he said: "Continue to fight like that, I'm proud of you.
"It's always nice to receive such a message from a great player."
Ultimately, though, Sakho will now have to prove himself to the next Liverpool manager. The enigmatic Frenchman is certainly capable of producing the goods in England's elite division, but must settle down and show consistency in his game sooner rather than later.
Under the new regime, the Reds must stop giving away silly goals. Romelu Lukaku's strike in the Merseyside derby was one to forget for the club's backline, so perhaps a change in management will help the club stabilise in the defensive department.
The likes of Sakho, Martin Skrtel, Kolo Toure and Dejan Lovren will all be hoping to become key men at Anfield throughout the course of the campaign.
