Immediately after Rodgers vacated his position, rumours surfaced that Jurgen Klopp was his imminent replacement, which drew some important figures to weigh in their perspectives on what's best for the club.
Kevin Keegan, who played for Liverpool for seven seasons, believes that the best thing for the club is to bring Carlo Ancelotti as boss and Steven Gerrard as his assistant, much like Ryan Giggs has been to Louis van Gaal at Manchester United.
Keegan expressed: "I would like Ancelotti with Gerrard coming when he has finished in America with a view to him taking over the job in two, three or as many years."
Regarding Klopp, he declared: "I don't think there is anyone else other than these two." Keegan spoke harshly of Rodgers, claiming he set the club back and going as far as saying he (Keegan) would rather coach city rivals Everton before coaching Liverpool. He also severely criticised Rodgers' expenditures, claiming that the near £300m he spent did not reap any benefit.
Despite Liverpool fans anxiously waiting for the decision to be made, The Mirror reported a couple of weeks prior to Rodgers' departure that the club had made no approach to Ancelotti, which leaves Klopp as the probable heir. Nevertheless, many Liverpool fans still hope to one day see Stevie G as club manager.
