Jordan Henderson had the unenviable task of informing his Liverpool teammates that Brendan Rodgers had been sacked following the 1-1 draw with Everton on Sunday.
This is according to the Daily Mail, who understand that the Reds’ captain was asked to deliver the news during a phone call with Fenway Sports Group president Mike Gordon.
However, the report adds that Liverpool’s players were not shocked when Henderson informed them Rodgers had gone, following weeks of intense speculation over the Northern Irish coach’s future.

While saddened that Rodgers is no longer the first-team manager at Anfield, there is excitement in the Liverpool dressing room about the imminent arrival of Jurgen Klopp.
The former Borussia Dortmund head coach is poised to sign a three-year contract with the Merseyside outfit following productive talks this week.
Henderson will be important for Klopp
Henderson was not in the squad to face local rivals Everton at the weekend, but was spotted at Goodison Park on crutches.
The England international, who Rodgers appointed Liverpool captain following the departure of Steven Gerrard in the summer, is currently sidelined with a foot injury.
Klopp is expected to stick with the influential midfielder as his captain - handing the armband to another Liverpool player would cause unnecessary chaos - and will be looking to the 25-year-old and other senior members of the Reds’ squad to help him out as much as possible over the coming weeks.
Unfortunately for Klopp, Henderson won’t be back in action until mid-November at the earliest - but that doesn’t mean he won’t have a key role to play inside the dressing room and on the training ground during the early days of his new manager’s tenure.
