Chelsea fans, welcome to your daily round-up.
There isn’t much we can say for today bar the fact it’s a fairly usual Wednesday that’s sure to fade into obscurity once the clock tolls for the beginning of Thursday.
That doesn’t mean we can’t enjoy it while it’s here though. What better way to do that than to settle down and read the latest gossip? Don’t worry, we’ll answer that. There is no better way.
Ancelotti for the future?
If Jose Mourinho pays even the slightest bit of attention to media reports - admittedly it’s not very likely - then he’ll be sweating at the prospect of being replaced by Carlo Ancelotti next summer.
Reports, apparently originating from Italian paper Gazzetta dello Sport - as relayed by the Daily Express - say that the ex-Real Madrid coach might well make a return to Chelsea - the club from which he was sacked in 2011 - with the man himself having confirmed he will take the rest of this season off and return in time for next campaign.
It’s rare that Mourinho is ruffled, but then it’s also rare that Chelsea start a term as badly as this one, so who knows what could happen.
The cost of Mourinho
Moving on, the Blues face a £37.5million bill if they want to get rid of Mourinho, or so speculation infers.
The Portuguese coach signed a new deal after guiding the Blues to Premier League and Capital One Cup glory last season, and Roman Abramovich would have to pay the contract’s entire worth if he wants Mourinho gone.
Lastly, Dutch legend Johan Cruyff has criticised Mourinho for his recent behaviour, claiming that he needs to change if things are to improve.
Cruyff said Mourinho always put himself in the ‘first row’, deducing that it could be because he was never an elite-level player before stepping into management.
