WWE: Mark Henry says his retirement is imminent

Published 6 Comments

Mark Henry is an elder statesman of the WWE these days and isn't really being used at all.

Henry Retiring

The former Heavyweight Champion is only really being used an enhancement talent to get the heels of today over and hasn't had any meaningful story lines since last year, and that's at a push.

Because of all this, and the fact that Henry's 44-year-old body really can't move all that well anymore, "Sexual Chocolate" has decided to retire when his contract runs out early next year.

Leaving after Mania

In an interview with Philly.com, Henry has given a timetable for when we can expect him to finally bow out of the WWE after nineteen years.

"I’m 100 percent sure," Henry said when asked if this was his last contract with the WWE. "I’m leading toward WrestleMania and I’ll have a little time after that, but that’s going to be it for me."

The veteran went on to say in the interview that he doesn't know how Vince McMahon convinced him to sign a new contract back in 2013, and that he wants to go into the marketing and talent development side of the business.

Henry wants to go out with a bang, not a whimper, but WWE will have to book him appropriately and give him something to do before he does bow out, which is something you can never count on with the WWE Creative team.

They've done it before - his excellent fake retirement promo and program with John Cena was exceptional, here's to hoping that they can manage something again. It's what Mark deserves.
