FC Utrecht midfielder Jean Paul de Jong has announced his retirement from football.

The out-of-contract 36-year-old was not offered a new deal by Utrecht and has failed to agree a deal with a number of interested clubs.

De Jong played 370 league games for Utrecht over the course of 14 seasons and holds the uneviable record of being the most cautioned player in Dutch league history after being shown 83 yellow cards during his career.
