Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants to replace Marcos Rojo with FC Porto defender Bruno Martins Indi when the transfer window re-opens in January.
This is according to the Manchester Evening News, who understand that the relationship between Van Gaal and Rojo has “broken down”.
The United manager is subsequently keen to offload the Argentine centre-back in the New Year - and has identified Martins Indi, who worked under the Dutch coach with the Netherlands national team, as the ideal replacement.

United were first linked with Martins Indi, 23, shortly after it was announced that Van Gaal had agreed to take the manager’s job at Old Trafford in the summer of 2014.
For one reason or another, though, the Dutch centre-back ended up joining Porto for a relatively modest fee of €7.7 million.

Rojo performed reasonably well last season
United, meanwhile, signed Rojo from Sporting Lisbon - for £16.5 million - at the end of the summer transfer window.
While the 25-year-old performed reasonably well during his debut season at Old Trafford - Van Gaal signed him because he’s left footed and capable of playing either at centre-back of left-back - he failed to cement his status as a key member of the squad.
Problems with LvG began in the summer
The problems with Van Gaal, though, began during pre-season.
Rojo did not show up for training in the United States, following the Copa America in Chile, after failing to renew his passport - it was an oversight that infuriated Van Gaal.
The former Barcelona and Bayern Munich boss was then angered by Rojo for a second time last month, when the defender failed to reveal the extent of a hamstring injury he suffered during the 3-2 win over Southampton.
United fans react to Martins Indi reports
It’s arguable whether Martins Indi would be an upgrade on Rojo. Here are some of the best replies from United supporters on Twitter.
