Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp sent scouts to watch Portugal Under-21 international Ruben Neves on Friday night.
This has been reported by the Mirror, who claim that the German coach is an admirer of Neves, having previously monitored him at Borussia Dortmund.
Neves, 18, is a regular for Porto and is recognised as one of the most exciting young players in Portugal.

In fact, the same report goes on to claim that the defensive midfielder is well known to Liverpool's elite player development coach Pep Lijnders, who previously worked for Porto.
As well as a defensive midfielder, Klopp appears to be in the market for a left-back as he goes in search of improving his new squad.
The arrival of Klopp has most definitely given everyone a lift on Merseyside. The charismatic coach is one of the most exciting managers in the game, so could prove quite the coup for the Anfield outfit in their pursuit of long-term success.
It certainly appears that Klopp is determined to give youth a chance, so it's not entirely surprising that the club have been linked with Neves at this stage.
For now, though, the 48-year-old will no doubt be focusing on getting to know his current crop of stars. Klopp is set to take charge of his first game against Tottenham at White Hart Lane on Saturday.
