Former Manchester United manager Sir Alex Ferguson believes David de Gea and Manuel Neuer are by far and away the best two goalkeepers on the planet.
The legendary Scottish coach, who bowed out of management following 26 years with the Red Devils in 2013, claims De Gea and Neuer are the Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi of goalkeeping,
Ferguson brought De Gea to Manchester United from Atletico Madrid in 2011. Months before that, United were interested in bringing Neuer to Old Trafford, only for the Germany international to sign for rivals Bayern Munich instead.

"Neuer and De Gea are the best goalkeepers in the world," Ferguson was quoted as saying by Kicker, according to FourFourTwo. “And by quite some distance as well.
"You have Messi and Ronaldo as outfield players and then Neuer and De Gea as the goalkeepers' equivalent."
Manuel Neuer: Overrated?
It’s hard to argue with any football opinion that Ferguson, the greatest manager in British football history, possesses.
And many would agree that, at this moment in time, Neuer and De Gea are the world’s two best goalkeepers.
However, some people believe that Neuer, in particular, is somewhat overrated. The 29-year-old captures the imagination because of his exciting tendency to rush out of his area, but this desire to get involved with play 20 or 30 yards from his goal-line has cost him - and his teams - dear in the past.
Neuer is unorthodox and isn’t everyone’s cup of tea - some might even say he’s a liability at times - but his trophy collection speaks for itself.
Thibaut Courtois is just as good
One goalkeeper who can feel a little hard done by not to be mentioned by Ferguson is Chelsea’s Thibaut Courtois.
The Belgium international was labelled “fantastic” by the former United boss just last week - but clearly Fergie reckons De Gea and Neuer are better keepers at this moment in time.
