Adil Rashid was named for his Test debut as England began their three-match series against Pakistan.

Rashid will figure as a second spinner at the Zyed Cricket Stadium alongside his fellow all-rounder Moeen Ali, who will open the batting with Alastair Cook.

For Pakistan, key leg-spinner Yasir Shah failed to recover from his back spasm - and the hosts therefore brought in Imran Khan as a third seamer.

Pakistan won the toss and chose to bat first on a pitch expected to give the seamers a little early help and then increasingly favour spin.
