Chelsea fans will fear the worst, ahead of this weekend’s must-win Premier League clash against Aston Villa, after seeing what goalkeeper Asmir Begovic did while playing for Bosnia and Herzegovina last night.
The 28-year-old committed an awful mistake against Cyprus, spilling a shot from inside the penalty area which led to Konstantinos Charalambidis equalising for the home side. (Scroll down this page to see Begovic's howler).
Fortunately for Begovic, his mistake didn’t prove to be too costly - eventually, anyway. Cyprus took the lead less than 10 minutes later, but goals from Haris Medunjanin and Milan Duric spared the Chelsea keeper’s blushes.

But that will be of scant consolation to the Chelsea fans, and Jose Mourinho, who are acutely aware that Begovic can ill-afford to make the same sort of mistake against Villa on Saturday afternoon.

This fixture would usually be a formality for Chelsea - a home banker - but nothing is certain after the way Mourinho’s men have started the 2015-16 campaign.

Mourinho has to stick with Begovic - for now...
Chelsea have taken eight points from their opening eight Premier League fixtures - and the under-fire Mourinho was handed a dreaded vote of confidence last week.
Begovic, in the absence of Thibaut Courtois, has performed reasonably well in recent weeks - but this mistake will concern the Chelsea faithful.
Mourinho secured the services of former Italy international Marco Amelia last week, but will continue to stick with Begovic - a far superior goalkeeper to the ex-AC Milan keeper - for the time being.
Chelsea fans and their manager must be counting down the days until the world-class Courtois finally returns.
