Having already conceded 17 goals in just eight league games, Jose Mourinho is growing increasingly frustrated at the defensive credibility of Chelsea and is not ready to waste any more time but look for reinforcements.

Hence, the Portuguese manager has earmarked a centre-back who is not only regarded one of the most promising young players but is also the perfect defender to lead the Blues out of this slump.

According to Daily Express, Chelsea will go all out for AS Roma centre-back Kostas Manolas in January.

The Greek defender was on the shortlist of The Blues who were unsuccessful to lure their primary transfer target John Stones from Everton and it is believed that they also failed in a deadline day move for Manolas this summer.

Chelsea may have signed Senegal international, 26-year-old Papy Djilobodji on deadline day but as he was not Mourinho’s choice, the manager is reluctant to use him during this defensive turmoil.

Having lost the services of Medhi Benatia and Marquinhos to Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain, respectively, Roma are desperate to hold on to the likes of Manolas who is deemed to be an important part of manager Rudi Garcia’s plans.

The Serie A club also dismissed Arsenal’s advances during the summer transfer window, as per Mirror reports.

The 24-year-old joined the club in the Italian capital in 2014 from Olympiacos and since made 37 league appearances scoring once.

An excellent all-round defender, Manolas’ speed, defensive attributes and interception skills make him one of most dynamic centre-half who is bound for success in the seasons to come.
