United's bid for Neymar
Manchester United wanted to sign Neymar during the summer transfer window, that much has been made clear.
A new report in Spanish daily, Sport, as relayed by the Daily Telegraph, claims that the Red Devils offered as much as £280,000-a-week in wages for the Brazilian to join them - that equates to around £14.65million a year.
It’s needless to say that Barcelona rejected their offer, otherwise Neymar would probably be a United player now, but it does speak volumes over how highly Louis van Gaal clearly rates the youngster.
Neymar’s father, Neymar Sr., also confirmed that United had called Barca, but got flatly rebuffed with their proposition.
"United phoned Barcelona and got the answer that Neymar has a contract and is not for sale," he said.
"Everyone is calm. Neymar still has three years on his deal.
"We are happy. Neymar chose to play here and he is super-happy in Barcelona.
Koeman: Depay will improve
Elsewhere, Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has looked to allay the fears of United supporters regarding Memphis Depay, insisting that the Dutch star will turn out OK.
Depay has struggled of late at Old Trafford, but Koeman said he had plenty of time to adapt and improve. Whether or not he will, of course, is another matter entirely.
Neville on Schweinsteiger
Lastly, Gary Neville has had his say on United’s loss to Arsenal earlier this month and, as is to be expected, he was less than impressed.
The former Old Trafford full-back singled out Bastian Schweinsteiger for particular criticism, stating that the Germany international was used ‘like a dog’ by Santi Cazorla.
