Lazar Markovic believes the reason he failed to shine at Liverpool last season was because Brendan Rodgers played him out of position on too many occasions.
The Serbia international, who arrived at Anfield in a £20 million deal from Benfica in the summer of 2014, is currently on a season-long loan deal with Fenerbahce after struggling to make a significant impact during his debut campaign in the Premier League.
Now that Rodgers has been axed by Liverpool, though, Markovic has taken the opportunity to confirm that he didn’t see eye-to-eye with the Northern Irish coach.

Bad news: Liverpool can't recall Markovic
It was reported by the Liverpool Echo on Tuesday that Jurgen Klopp was considering the idea of bringing Markovic back to Anfield in January.
However, Joyce tweeted on Wednesday to confirm that the 21-year-old will be staying at Fenerbahce for the remainder of the season: Liverpool are unable to recall him in the New Year.
Here’s how Liverpool fans have reacted to that news.
Markovic can become a key player under Klopp
Markovic established his reputation as one of European football’s most exciting talents during his one season with Benfica, where he scored seven goals in 49 appearances and helped guide the Portuguese club to the Europa League final.
Rodgers must take responsibility for the fact he failed Markovic last season, although sending him out on loan for the season to gain valuable first-team experience wasn’t a terrible decision.
Because of his lightning-quick pace, Markovic should be able to become a real asset for Liverpool under Klopp.
But he’ll need to prove that he also possesses the required work ethic to flourish under the former Borussia Dortmund boss.
