Manchester United hero Gary Pallister has insisted that the club have to be really careful with exciting forward Anthony Martial.

Speaking to 888.com, Pallister has hinted that Martial could end up like Adnan Januzaj if the club fail to protect their latest teenage talent.

Since moving to Old Trafford from AS Monaco in the summer, Martial has enjoyed a remarkable start to his career on English soil, but Pallister is seemingly worried about the hype surrounding the striker.

Much like Martial, Januzaj enjoyed a glorious opening period to his United career, but the Belgium international has since gone on to struggle in Manchester.

In fact, Januzaj is currently out on loan at Bundesliga outfit Borussia Dortmund, where he will stay for the remainder of the season.

When speaking about Martial, Pallister stated: “It’s really exciting to see a young player come into the team and have an immediate impact but we saw that a couple of seasons ago with Januzaj, where we all went on about him being the new Ryan Giggs or the next Georgie Best.

“In the early part of his career he took Manchester United by storm but he’s flat-lined since then so you’ve got to be really careful when you throw all these accolades at young players.”

Martial stardom

Pallister is right to be cautious with Martial, of course. The aforementioned forward has been a joy to watch in the early stages of the campaign, but he's by no means the finished article.

What's pleasing for United fans, however, is that he appears to be focused on getting better and better, so there's no reason why he won't come to prominence under the Louis van Gaal regime.

Manchester United fans: how many goals do you expect Martial to score this season? Have your say below!
