Patriots Twitter account trolls Jets with 'butt fumble' post

Published 1 Comments

Whenever divisional rivals square off in the NFL it is never a quiet affair.

And the New England Patriots have wasted little time in ramping up the tension ahead of their key week seven game against AFC East rivals the New York Jets.

Taking full advantage of Twitter's weekly 'Throwback Thursday' hashtag, the reigning Super Bowl champions posted a certain image dating back from 2012 that is sure to rile up their New Jersey foes.

Unfortunately for fans of the Gang Green, the Butt Fumble game on Thanksgiving three years ago has become ingrained in the folklore of a rivalry that dates back to 1960.

And to see Mark Sanchez's face so uncomfortably close to Brandon Moore's behind is sure to bring back bad memories so close to the latest instalment of the rivalry.

But, whilst Jets fans are desperate to bury the embarrassing moment deep in their subconscious, Patriots fans, and the organization themselves, appear to be doing their level best to humiliate their upcoming opponents.

The tweet had almost 6,000 retweets and 5,000 favorites despite being line for only two hours.

In something of a surprise twist, however, the Patriots appear to have now deleted the tweet.

Perhaps the employee in charge of their Twitter account was sent word from the top? Or maybe the Patriots were suddenly overcome a sudden feeling of guilt...Unlikely, we know.

Either way, the 5-0 franchise should know by now that you are never more than a screenshot away from the whole world seeing your thoughts these days, even if you try and hide the evidence.
