Jurgen Klopp has hailed Liverpool defender Mamadou Sakho as “absolutely spectacular” following his imperious display against Rubin Kazan on Thursday night.
The France international earned rave reviews from pundits and fans alike for his commanding performance - and it seems Klopp was equally impressed with the 25-year-old.
Klopp had little to say about why Brendan Rodgers may have opted against using Sakho on occasions at the start of the season; all the German coach is concerned about are the player’s current performances for Liverpool.

“I can’t say anything about this (failing to start earlier in the year),” Klopp was quoted as saying by the Liverpool Echo. “Maybe he was not fit or things like this. But I can understand why they shouted his name. Mama was really spectacular defending and good playing football.”
Liverpool supporters blasted out Sakho’s name during the 1-1 draw with Rubin Kazan and many took to Twitter after the match to declare the former Paris Saint-Germain defender as their Man of the Match.
Sakho can become one of the Premier League's best
Sakho has only managed to show glimpses of his quality following his move from Ligue 1, but if can continue his rich vein of form then, sooner or later, it won’t be long before he’s widely considered as one of the Premier League’s best centre-backs.
In order to secure a top-four finish, Liverpool require their defence to remain as resolute as possible - and in Sakho they have a centre-back with the quality and leadership skills to inspire those around him.
Next up for Sakho and his teammates are Southampton on Sunday afternoon - a match in which Klopp will be desperately hoping to secure his first victory as Liverpool manager.
