There have been a lot of conflicting rumours regarding John Cena and his United States Championship this week.
Some reports suggest he is set to drop it to whoever answers his open challenge on Sunday night, be it Daniel Bryan, Dean Ambrose, Samoa Joe or Tyler Breeze, whilst others suggest Cena could be set to take the title on hiatus with him and face Sheamus when he makes his return on December 26th.
US TITLE TO PRESTIGIOUS?
The US title has been built up so much over the past few years, since Dean Ambrose dropped it to Sheamus, that it would make no sense to have it off WWE TV for two months.

That being said, it wouldn't be that much of a surprise if WWE allowed Cena to take it with him, it has been done before. The issue is that when he returns he will already have a challenger, a challenger who should be looking at a different champion.
Mr Money in the Bank should be going after Seth Rollins and his world title, so why is he going after John Cena? Well, WWE want Sheamus to cash in his contract on Rollins and lose the match so that he can then focus on other things, because WWE no longer see him as a World Champion. But could WWE do something about this?

CASH IN ON THE US TITLE?
WWE are all for creating history and this has never been done before, why don't they allow Sheamus to answer the open challenge on Sunday night and when he loses he can then spend the next two months talking about how he will extract revenge on Cena.
Cena will then return at the end of December and Sheamus can then cash in his Money in the Bank briefcase on the United States Championship instead of the World title. Thus giving Sheamus a better storyline and showing just how prestigious the United States Championship is.
It would be an easy storyline to build for Sheamus and it means he won't join John Cena and Damien Sandow in the history books as only one of three Mr Money in the Banks who have unsuccessfully cashed in their contract.
WWE shouldn't give the Money in the Bank case to superstars they refuse to support, but if there is a way they can spin it in their favour and a way to make both Cena and the US Title look great, why wouldn't they do it?
