Manchester United could make a £29-million move for Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Hakan Calhanoglu in the January transfer window, according to the Independent.
Citing Bild, it has been suggested that the Red Devils have been scouting the dynamic Turkey international for a number of months and could press ahead with a move sooner rather than later.
Calhanoglu is recognised as one of the most exciting attacking midfielders in Germany's elite division, so would no doubt prove quite the coup for Van Gaal.

At 21, the Leverkusen ace looks set for a bright future in the game, but wouldn't come cheap for the Old Trafford outfit.
Van Gaal previously revealed that he would look to add to his side in the attacking department, so it appears that Calhanoglu fits the bill for the Dutchman.
Van Gaal previously stated: "I have already said, in the transfer period, I could not buy every player I want and that’s also because of the market.
"I have said that we need creative, speedy players in attack. You have seen which players I have bought; I like that profile, but we need more.
"I think that all the players I want do want to come. It is not a question of the players, it is a question of the clubs who are stopping them."
Van Gaal is right; United are still in need of electric, speedy players. The duo of Anthony Martial and Memphis Depay have helped the cause in Manchester, but the United boss can't rest on his laurels in his pursuit of success.
Calhanoglu would certainly add another dimension to the club's attack, so don't be surprised if a bid is made in the next transfer window.
