Ray Rice has almost become a forgotten name amongst the new NFL season and all the new names that have eclipsed him.

It has almost been two years since Rice last played football professionally but he is constantly being linked with franchises in need of a runningback.

Time to give up?

Rice was released by the Baltimore Ravens following the release of footage which showed him striking his then fiancée Janay.

With his suspension overturned and criminal convictions now behind him, Rice has been trying to secure a return to the NFL.

While no team has reached out to Rice since he was released by Baltimore and subsequently suspended from the league, he is remaining positive.

"I’m doing what I’ve got to do to get another shot,” - Rice on his hopes of returning to the NFL

Rice's hopes of returning fade more and more by the day but the 28 year old runningback is doing everything he can to rehabilitate his image.

Rice and his now wife were in Baltimore again this week giving out free uniforms to youth cheerleaders as they try to remain close to the Baltimore community.

The road to redemption for Rice has already been a long one but there is no sign of it ending soon.

Ever coming back?

There are some fans who feel that Rice still has a role to play in the NFL yet, but it seems like it will take a lot for any team to contact him.

While the Cardinals - who were 31st in the league for rushing yards in 2014 chose Chris Johnson in the off-season, Rice's return seems more likely to come from a team who lose their starter during the season.

Jamaal Charles and Arian Foster have both suffered season ending injuries already but the Chiefs and Texans still seem unwilling to contact Rice.

Who knows what it will take for Rice to secure a return to the league or if it will ever happen.
