WWE: Four potential feuds for Alberto Del Rio

The WWE surprised the fans at Hell in a Cell when none other than Alberto Del Rio answered John Cena’s United States open challenge and defeated him for the gold.

It was definitely strange to see the alliance of Del Rio and Zeb Colter on stage, but it’s clear the WWE are keeping the two together to draw more heat, and challengers will be lining up to take them down.

There are plenty of avenues the WWE could go down in order to make Del Rio an active and dominating champion, and it would be a shame to see them waste his championship reign. Here are the four potential feuds I believe could and should take place during Del Rio’s reign as United States Champion.

JOHN CENA

This one is pretty obvious and we should see Cena return in December to invoke his rematch clause against the man who pinned him for the title.

It’s something we’ve seen in the past, but Cena is one of the few who has fantastic chemistry with Del Rio inside of the ring which means the matches the two have are always of a high quality.

We know how proud Cena is as an American and his verbal jabs to Colter could be entertaining as well, we should expect to see Cena make a surprise return to reclaim the championship he has helped make more prestigious.

KEVIN OWENS

This one is probably more of an outside of the box pick, but it would also be something fans would thoroughly enjoy if they were to go one on one.

First off, we know how good Owens is on the microphone and he’s also someone who will be proud from where he hails, which means Colter will love to take advantage of that and throw some verbal abuse Owens’ way.

The build-up would be fantastic as would the match because both men are fantastic workers inside of the ring, the only problem is that they are both heels. I don’t think that would really matter if both men are trying to unify the United States and Intercontinental Championships.

NEVILLE

It looks likely that Del Rio and Neville will battle it out at Survivor Series with the title on the line, but whether it’s a lengthy feud remains to be seen.

It’s obvious that the build-up isn’t something the fans would be excited by as it would be Colter who does most of the work by playing down England’s achievements, but it’s the quality of matches that will make this feud want to see.

We’ve seen them compete last week and that was a fantastic match, if they’re given more time and opportunities on a bigger show then they will both go over well with the crowd.

CESARO

Cesaro would probably be the number one pick for a number of reasons, one of those is that fans believe he deserves some sort of a push and a United States Championship match would be a step in the right direction.

Another reason is that both Del Rio and Cesaro are fantastic in-ring workers and it will be interesting to see how Cesaro could cope by challenging Del Rio and all of the focus is on him.

At the same time, it will be great to see Cesaro involved with Colter, even though he'll be standing opposite him rather than next to him. This would help Del Rio go over as a heel and the Cesaro section would only continue to grow bigger and better.
