Real Madrid's France international striker Karim Benzema has been arrested after being accused of blackmail.
The accusation relates to a sex tape featuring his international teammate Mathieu Valbuena, who currently plays for Lyon.
A local prosecutor told AFP, as per the Telegraph, that the Bernabeu forward was in custody at a police station in Versailles after arriving early on Wednesday.

French newspaper L'Epuipe report that the Real Madrid number nine had mentioned the existence of the tape to Valbuena while on international duty in October.
The reason Benzema is being held is so authorities can establish whether the conversation was friendly advice from the 27-year-old or a plot to extort money from his compatriot.
Before being detained, the French striker's lawyer told Le Journal du Dimanche, via the Guardian, that his client would respond to any requests for information. He also added that Benzema, himself, was targeted four years ago.
Three alleged blackmailers, who are said to be part of several footballer's "entourage", have been charged since mid-October.
A fortnight ago, former Liverpool and France striker Djibril Cisse was interviewed and subsequently released as part of the same investigation.
Cisse and Valbuena had previously been international teammates and played together at Marseille from 2007 to 2009.
Police said the former Anfield favourite was questioned over an alleged scheme to extract money from his 31-year-old compatriot and are yet to confirm the reality of this sex tape.
