Nir Bitton's contract extension at Celtic until 2020 will come as fantastic news for the fans and club alike - if not slightly surprising -given the player looks like a perfect target for the Premier League.

The Israeli midfielder's new deal comes at a crucial time, with the Hoops needing all the confidence to lift spirits ahead of an uphill struggle against Molde this week in the Europa League.

Bitton was one of the main focus' of Deila's player improvement strategy when the Norwegian arrived at Celtic and initially used the midfielder as a fringe player.

The 24-year-old took to the challenge and progressed rapidly to fill the huge Victor Wanyama shape void in midfield.

The box-to-box midfielder seems to go from good-to-great and is the epitome of coolness in the centre of the park. His deal, set to keep him at Celtic Park for another five years looks to be one of the finest dealings under Deila's reign to date.

Bitton has made 82 appearances for the Scottish Champions and has won back-to-back titles since joining from Israeli side FC Ashdod.

Celtic host Molde on Thursday night where they will need their star man to be at his best.

News of the contract extension will give the Bhoys a helping hand as they try and to lift themselves off the foot of Group A.
