Money can go an awful long way in football, but it can’t convince Chelsea to part ways with under fire boss Jose Mourinho, apparently. Allow us to clarify - it’s said this morning that French giants AS Monaco made a shock offer for Mourinho to the tune of £35million, with the club’s owner having met with Roman Abramovich to discuss the idea. It’s said Monaco were willing to buy Mourinho out of his contract, but Abramovich remained loyal. Mourinho obviously has more support than most fans are giving him credit for. Coincidentally, our second story of the day looks at the man most likely to replace Mourinho if he does leave Stamford Bridge. That’s right, it’s Carlo Ancelotti. The former Real Madrid boss has backed his managerial counterpart to restore order at Chelsea, dismissing the idea of a return to the post for himself. He said: ‘I had a good time at Chelsea, but the team has the best manager to solve its problems’. Well, make of that what you will.
