Twitter has predictable response to Johnny Manziel start announcement

The latest chapter in the Johnny Manziel saga is set to begin in just over 24 hours.

With Josh McCown failing to prove his fitness in time for the Cleveland Brown's week nine game against the Cincinnati Bengals, the second-year quarterback is set to start in the primetime of Thursday Night Football.

And, as you might expect considering Manziel's career to date, the internet has been quick to mock the former Texas A&M star's chances of success.

Even ESPN Stats and Info were getting involved in their own subtle way:

Whether Manziel is the type of character that thrives on such criticism remains to be seen, but he certainly has the opportunity to prove people wrong tomorrow night.

Going up against an undefeated Bengals team doesn't exactly present the easiest of circumstances for Johnny Football, however.

Right move

But, whilst much of the NFL community is predicting a blood bath at Paul Brown Stadium, there is an argument that Manziel deserved to start the game regardless of McCown's fitness.

Despite only starting one game for the Browns so far in 2015, the young QB has as many wins as McCown.

And, with Cleveland having regressed in recent weeks on the way to a 2-6 record, there have been calls for Mike Pettine and co. to take a different path for the rest of the season.

Is Manziel can come out of tomorrow night's game relatively unscathed then those calls will only grow louder. The doubters, meanwhile, will have to put their hot takes on ice.
