Broncos try for Thomas
The Denver Broncos yesterday made an audacious attempt to pry offensive tackle Joe Thomas away from the Cleveland Browns, but it fell through as the Browns’ asking price was too high.
Reports in the Denver Post claim that Broncos’ general manager John Elway wanted to acquire Thomas, but with Cleveland seeking Denver’s first-round draft pick in 2017 and their second-round pick in 2016, there was little wiggle room.
Of course, the Browns weren’t really motivated to move him in any case, so that deal did not go through.
Cowboys aim to replace Randle
Elsewhere, the Dallas Cowboys moved quickly yesterday to secure running back Trey Williams as a replacement for Joseph Randle, having cut the latter from their roster.
NFL media insider Ian Rapoport tweeted to say that he’d been told by sources of the Cowboys’ actions, with Williams having been taken from the Washington Redskins’ practise squad.
J.R Smith scan results come back
Across to the NBA, and Cleveland Cavaliers guard J.R Smith underwent an MRI on Tuesday - one that confirmed he will miss the next two games against the New York Knicks and the Philadelphia 76ers.
The scan revealed a right knee contusion and quadriceps tendinitis in his right leg. It sounds painful but isn’t as serious as was first feared.
Bryant barred from practise
Lastly, interesting rumours are circling around the idea that the Los Angeles Lakers barred superstar Kobe Bryant from practise on Monday because he was ‘really angry.’
Head coach Byron Scott confirmed that he’d told Bryant to skip Monday’s practise sessions so he could have 24 hours to get his mind away from basketball.
